Comments from TheHeraldNews

"I know for a fact the person in question doesn't write on houses or anything like that. And to stand there and say they are going to put all there resources like he's a bank robber give me a break thats just so far out of line it isn't even funny. How about the city focuses on the more important issues in our city such as the obvious drug problem 85% of the city has or how about getting down to the bottom of the shootings that had taken place in north park 2 nights in a row this past week. All there trying to do is find a scape goat for all the graffiti around the city. If the FRPD did some work they would know that he is already detained and has been since last week."

"Yeah, he shouldn't of vandalized property but give the kid a break, him being locked up is pathetic. Use the jail for the real ****heads who deserve to be locked up"

"...hmmm and it's also funny how you see all these hood rats pass around or even drop needles but get away with it. John is a quiet artist who wants to express himself and the beauty of our youth."

"WHY DID`NT THEY KNOW HE WAS ALLREADY LOCKED UP ? AND HE HAS`NT TAGGED IN YEARS....GIVE ME A BREAK...GO FIND SOMETHING ELSE TO DO WITH YOUR TIME...YOU`VE GOT TO BE KIDDING."

"...and he has been in a jail cell already! for days now! way to go! the mayor is using John as an example, but he picked a crappy one. because the target of their manhunt, IS IN THE COUNTY JAIL ALREADY!"

"My point was that the city should be more worried about the real criminals rather then the insignificance of graffiti. Take away all the graffiti and then what? We're a clean city with a good portion of the population in rehab or on drugs. It cost 35,000 per prisoner and i believe that we shouldn't flood our prisons with such a small crime. I'm not saying give him a free pass but the punishment should fit the crime how about covering his work himself as a part of community service rather then waste money on hiring others to do it....."

FREE LAVOIE

“All our resources are being brought to bear to bring this individual into custody, just as if he committed a bank robbery." This is such a joke. Full article here.

Update from Mexico

Recent heavy rain on the Pacific coast caused damage in small towns, washing out bridges and roadways. In one town, the uprooted trees were washed downstream and created a natural reef at the river mouth. Our friend Alonso sent us these photos of him trying out the new break.

Whenever we get a hurricane swell, we ask people to send their photos to our facebook page. Here are the best ones we got from Earl.

WWCD?

One of my favorite videos back in the day was Deluxe's tour video "Gnarcotica." There's some good footage of a young Dustin Dollin and TNT, but the highlight is Cardiel destroying this transfer in the rain. A shot of it ended up on the cover of Thrasher, but the slams are almost as good. Next time you're complaing about a spot because of cracks or sand or whatever, ask yourself, "what would Cardiel do?"

Skate Art

The High Five and Bloodwizard skateboards have been producing great artwork on their decks recently. Todd Bratrud has been making skate graphics for years, for brands like Consolidated and Enjoi, and collaborating with Nike SB. His "Skunk" Dunks, released on 4/20, were one of the most anticipated shoes from Nike SB this year. Skinner's art is like a psychadelic, heavy metal nightmare. Take a look at their websites, and some of their earlier work below.

Swell

That's how you roll an ankle.

2nd degree sprains are even more painful when one of these are on the way.

Some epic swell is coming in the next few days. If you see someone weeping on the beach, that's me.

Bonus

When Etnies Skate and Create was released they mentioned "everyone was surprised on how much footage we got in the end. The video we made was only part of all the footage we had." Here's the rest...

You Will Soon

If you don't keep up with YouWillSoon, you're really missing out. It may be a cynical Canadian's prespective on skateboarding, but it's really funny. His recent post perfectly summed up how I expect most people felt about this year's Skate and Create. Today he follows it up with news that bonus footage from the Etnies submission will be released this Friday. Check it out!

Skateboards Renewed

From the artist’s website: Haroshi’s creations are born through styles such as wooden mosaic, dots, and pixels; where each element, either cut out in different shapes or kept in their original form, are connected in different styles, and shaven into the form of the final art piece.
