SHARK WEEK!

It's not just Shark Week on television, but in the North East, too.

More great white sharks -- nearly five on Friday alone -- were spotted off Cape Cod, not far from the coast where the movie "Jaws" was filmed.

A five-mile stretch of beach near Chatham, Mass., was closed to swimmers indefinitely as a precaution Friday.

The announcement drew hundreds of spectators eager to catch a glimpse of the sharks -- which can grow as long as 20 feet and weigh more than a ton -- but officials were not worried about having to enforce the swimming ban, the Boston Herald reported.

"It's funny. When you say 'sharks,' you really don’t have problems with enforcement,” Chatham harbormaster Stuart Smith told the Herald.

"They were described as up to 16 feet long and about 100 feet from the shore." Photo above Chatham, July 31.
